MUDD 5ELA Launches Solo Career with “Hater City,” a Visual Manifesto for Detroit Hip-Hop Unity
Legendary 5 Elementz co-founder releases video, debut EP this spring with producer Nick Speed; features Downtown Detroit, Belle Isle, 7 Mile

Detroit, MI – May 19, 2026 –
MUDD 5ELA, a Detroit hip-hop pioneer and founding member of legendary group 5 Elementz (5 ELA), is stepping into his solo career with “Hater City,” a music video and lead single that demands the return of authentic lyricism. Produced by Detroit’s Nick Speed and directed by Common Breath Media, the track arrives alongside MUDD’s debut solo EP “MUDD On My Top Tens” in late spring 2026.
As a founding member of 5 Elementz since 1994, MUDD (Reginald Moorer) helped shape Detroit’s underground hip-hop legacy alongside Thyme and Proof of D12. The group launched the solo careers of hip-hop icons including J Dilla (Jay Dee) and inspired the greatness of Eminem. After decades of independent releases as a collective, MUDD is now positioned to carry the torch as what he calls “a High Priest of Hip Hop”—leading a movement toward artistic unity and community empowerment.
Shot across iconic Detroit locations—Downtown Detroit, Belle Isle, and 7 Mile—”Hater City” is a powerful visual manifesto calling for an end to fragmentation in Detroit’s hip-hop community. The track and its accompanying behind-the-scenes content emphasize the love, unity, and creative potential that exists throughout the city streets. Beyond the single, MUDD is releasing exclusive content through his YouTube channel, The Moorish Mudd Show, featuring commentary, interviews, and live event coverage.
“This is about bringing us back together. Detroit built hip-hop on lyrical excellence and spiritual depth. “Hater City” is a call to remember who we are and what we’re capable of when we stand united. I’m not just releasing music—I’m stepping into my purpose as a keeper of our legacy.”” — MUDD 5ELA
